The Bachelor of Science in Speech Therapy

The Bachelor of Science in Speech Therapy is a full time four-year program in which students receive broad academic preparation in the normal processes of communication and its development, as well as in the identification and treatment of communication disorders. Students learn through active engagement in class-based instruction, clinical practicum, research activities and clinical seminars. Our graduates will be eligible to join Iranian Speech Therapy Association and Iranian Medical Council. Speech Therapist may work in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, private clinics and nursing homes. Our program is ideal for persons who are interested in the Allied Health Professions and seek a strong theoretical base for evidenced-based clinical practice to meet the needs of individuals with communication disorders.

The Master of Science in Speech Therapy

The Master of Science in Speech Therapy is a two-year continuous program with a short summer break. The program integrates academic and clinical skills needed for practice and research in speech-language pathology. Moreover, students are provided with the basic research skills required for the scientific study of normal and disordered speech and language processes in children and adults. The curriculum is organized into three academic units: 12 credit basic courses, 12 credit mandatory major courses, and 4 credit elective major courses. In addition to the required course work, a student in the MSc must also complete a 4 credit research project leading to a Master’s thesis and successfully defend it. Therefore, a total of 32 credits in the major are required for the master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology.

The PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) program in Speech Therapy

The PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) program in Speech Therapy emphasizes preparation for research and teaching careers in speech-language pathology and science. Prior to the dissertation, students complete approximately two years of coursework both inside and outside the department. Following the first two years of study, successful completion of written and oral comprehensive examinations and approval of a dissertation prospectus allows the student to be admitted to candidacy for the PhD degree. The remainder of the program is devoted to the dissertation. PhD student research projects typically result in submission and acceptance of at least two papers in leading journals in hearing and speech-language science.
